01Who we are

HelpMePass ("we", "us", "our") is an independent study resource operated from Lausanne, Switzerland. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by EHL Hospitality Business School. For the purpose of Swiss and EU data protection law, HelpMePass is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

02What we collect

We only collect what a service actually needs to work:

You give us directly

• Account details — your email address and, optionally, your first name when you create an account or join the waitlist.
• Messages — anything you send through our contact form (your name, email, and message).
• Tutor profile — if you choose to teach, the profile information you publish to the marketplace (subjects, rate, bio).

Created as you use HelpMePass

• Study progress — which chapters you've opened, questions attempted, mock scores, and streaks, so we can show your dashboard and pick up where you left off.
• Purchases — which courses you've unlocked. Card payments are handled entirely by our payment processor; we never see or store your full card number.
• Basic technical data — standard server logs (such as a truncated IP and browser type) needed to keep the service secure and working.

03How we use it

We use your data to:

• create and secure your account and keep you logged in;
• save your progress, scores, and preferences across devices;
• unlock and deliver the courses you purchase;
• reply to your messages and provide support;
• send essential service emails (confirmation, password reset, purchase receipts) — and, only if you opt in, occasional product updates;
• understand aggregate, anonymised usage so we can improve the courses.

We will never sell your personal data, and we won't use your messages or study data for anything other than running and improving HelpMePass.

04Legal basis (FADP & GDPR)

Where the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and the EU GDPR apply, we rely on:

• Contract — to provide the account and courses you sign up for.
• Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and improve our courses, balanced against your rights.
• Consent — for optional marketing emails, which you can withdraw at any time.
• Legal obligation — where we must keep records (for example, tax records for purchases).

05Cookies & local storage

We keep this light. HelpMePass uses your browser's local storage to remember your login session, your sidebar layout, and your study streak — these are essential to the app working. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

You can clear this data at any time from your browser settings; doing so will simply log you out and reset local preferences.

06Who we share with

We share data only with the service providers needed to run HelpMePass, under contracts that require them to protect it:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider, which securely stores your account and progress.
• Our payment processor — to take payments securely. They receive the data needed to process your purchase; we receive only a confirmation and the last digits of the card.
• Email delivery — to send the transactional emails listed above.

We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. We never sell your data to anyone.

07How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we're legally required to keep certain records (such as purchase receipts for accounting). Anonymised, aggregate statistics that can't identify you may be kept to improve the product.

08Your rights

You can, at any time:

• Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
• Correct anything that's inaccurate;
• Delete your account and data ("right to be forgotten");
• Export your data in a portable format;
• Object to or restrict certain processing;
• Withdraw consent for marketing emails with one click.

To exercise any of these, email hello@helpmepass.ch from your account address and we'll action it promptly. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or your local EU supervisory authority.

09Security

Connections to HelpMePass are encrypted with HTTPS, passwords are hashed by our authentication provider, and quiz answers are graded server-side — correct answers are never sent to your browser. While no system is perfectly secure, we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data.

10Minors

HelpMePass is intended for university-level students and is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16; if you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.

11Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you by email or in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
